FUTURE PLANS

The Children’s Centre laid out the following areas for future development.

Playground Facilities-
are required for active recreation and physical development. Needs include:
· Model playground with varied equipment for creative and healthy outdoor play (e.g., fun house, climbing gyms, play sculptures, swings and slides, obstacle course, tunnels, sandbox, play embankment, etc.)
· Sports facilities such as tennis and basketball courts, soccer field, bicycle path;
· Recreational youth hall for indoor sports such as table tennis, board games, etc.
· Landscaped park with walkways and benches, trees and flowers;
· Complete fencing, in the interest of safety.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is needed to equip children with the required computer and information skills and to link them with the wider world of knowledge. This would include:
· A computer learning laboratory with 8 systems and 2 printers, plus accessories;
· Computerization of the library for greater effectiveness and access to information: 3 computers (for library operations and reference services), Internet access, 2 printers, and accessories;
· Desktop publishing unit to produce locally based reading and learning materials: computer, printer, scanner, CD-writer, photocopier.

Vehicle for Transport – The Children’s Centre bus is 22 years old and needs replacement for servicing such programs as excursions, visits to the motherless babies home, library services to schools, outreach to the prison, trips to buy books and other materials, and general conduct of Children’s Centre business.

Equipping of the Centre with audiovisual resources and equipment, full kitchen facilities, materials and equipment for science, art and other activities, work tables and sinks, cupboards and shelves, psycho-educational testing materials, etc.

Library resources for extended services to the community, schools and prison and maintenance of the African Children’s Literature Research Collection.

The Children’s Centre appeals for assistance in expanding our services and facilities for the benefit of further generations of children.
